The Illinois End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act (SB 9) was introduced in the Illinois Senate on January 13th, 2025, by Assistant Majority Leader Linda Holmes. This bill still sits in the Senate after two readings with no additional actions defined. A companion version of the bill, HB 1328, was introduced in the Illinois House on January 14th, 2025, by House Majority Leader Robyn Gabel. The House version of the bill passed the House of Representatives in May by a vote of 63-42. This version of the bill now sits in the Senate awaiting action. It is expected that the bill will come to a vote in the Senate in January, and the Governor has already said he will sign it.
