* Coats for Kids *

     The Knights of Columbus established the Coats for Kids program to provide warm winter coats for children in need during the cold winter months. The Coats for Kids program ensures that no child in North America goes without a coat during winter. Through the dedication of councils across the United States and Canada, hundreds of thousands of new winter coats have been distributed to children since the program’s inception.
     Here in Rock Island, Allouez Council has been providing hundreds of coats annually to local children through our partnership with Children’s Therapy Center and Skip-a-Long Childhood Center, both in Rock Island.  For the past several years Allouez Council has distributed 96 coats each year to these agencies. We use our receipts from the Birdies for Charities to help cover the cost of these coats.  But donations to Birdies for Charites have been on the decline, and we’ve had to draw from resources that would have helped fund other charitable causes.  This year we’ve increased the number of coats donated to 120 coats and also had a 15% increase in the price of the coats.  So, our cost for this year has gone up to $2,834.
